Type 5A molecular sieve is a calcium-form alkali aluminosilicate adsorbent with an effective pore opening of 5 angstroms (0.5 nm). It adsorbs molecules with kinetic diameters below 5 angstroms while excluding larger molecules.

Supported applications include removing water, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and light mercaptans from gas streams.

The material is also described for separating normal and iso-paraffins in the C4-C6 range, pressure-swing hydrogen purification, oxygen concentrators, and the production of high-purity nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and inert gases from mixed streams. Available forms include spherical beads and cylindrical pellets.

The technical data lists pellet diameters of 1.5-1.7 mm and 3.0-3.3 mm, plus sphere diameters of 1.7-2.5 mm and 3.0-5.0 mm.
